UK, Italy, France – a beacon for US to follow. In the US – follow the California example – not South Dakota

Uk, Italy and France are all seeing significant reductions in COVID cases. Fatalities in UK & France are falling significant. In Italy – fatalities are extremely high. The US hasn’t experienced the worst of fatalities yet, new COVID cases are still rising.

At 12 fatalities per million per day, Italy fatalities are 2x that of UK or France per capita
The kind of progress shown in Europe is needed in the US. California shows its making the tough but necessary decisions.

The US cases per capita are at the same level that Italy recently peaked (around Nov 14th). The most recent fatality data in the US is sharply rising upwards.

The action taken by California to essentially shut down – while not popular – is the right action to take at this point. The US is in a hospital capacity crisis. Here’s the CA curve – that’s about as sharply rising upwards as you can get:

By contrast – if you act too late – you experience the South Dakota type of curve:

New cases are still about 2x that of the national average. Deaths are 4x the national average
Tennessee need to get the brakes on also.
